Kottaiyur- Arulmigu Pandhadu Nayagi Samedha Koteeswarar Temple: The place Kottaiyur derived the name as the Shiva Lingam materialized under the castor bushes. A great sage Eranda Munivar came out through a cave and showed the Cauvery River to the Chozha Kingdom and is believed that lord Shiva had given him and the Chozha king Darshan as millions of Shiva Lingams. Hence the place got the name of Koteeswarar. The main idol’s body covered with boil like eruptions is a specialty here. Also the Navagrahas here are depicted with their respective vehicles and Chakras which is a speciality too. Thirucherai - Arulmigu Gnanambigai Udanurai Saara Parameshwarar Temple: The lord here is said to liberate those who are in monetary debts. Seated on the western side of the temple, the lord is known as Runa Vimochagar, who bestows alleviation of poverty and to get rid of monetary debts. Visiting this temple consecutively for 11 weeks is believed to relieve people of monetary debts. Thirukkadayur- Thirukkadayur Abirami Amman Samedha Amrita Kadeshwarar Thirukkoil To celebrate birthdays, 60th, 70th and 80th birthdays and also to conduct special Homams for conquering death, this is the ideal temple. This is where Shiva is said to have blessed Markandeyan to remain at the age of 16 years for ever. It is believed that Gods and Demons had left the divine pot of nectar and gone for bathing. When they got back and tried to lift the pot, they couldn’t; which ultimately transformed into a Shiva Lingam. Hence the lord takes the name Amrita Kadeshwarar. This is the divine place where Shiva kicked Yama, the lord of death to save Markandeyan. People have the darshan of Kaala Samharamoorthy (lord who had won over time) along with his consort Balambigai. One can also have the darshan of lord Yama who was also blessed by lord Shiva. There is a separate Garba Griha for Goddess Abirami who is said to have given darshan to an ardent devotee as a full moon on a new moon day.
